Where I got my Jordans...

Really only a matter of time before we got into this... for me it was always about the Jordan IIIs & Jordan Vs... but more than both those... Jordan IVs!

Still got my original Jordan Vs from the '80s... though had to cop the Black/Red/Cement Spizikes when they dropped last year...
(Watched a grown man run across the length of a hall just to ask me where I got them from at my friend's party that same week!)

I was never impressed by Jordan IIs... nothing really stood out about them... until now...

Rane SL 4 for Serato Scratch Live

I've always been impressed by the amount of thought that the Rane Corporation invest in their products, now in their 30th year, they have pushed the envelope once again with the new SL 4 interface.

I first came across the name Rane in the late '90s while staying in Nottingham with my people the Funky Nassau DJs. They put on an event that featured the US DJ crew The Kolabs (DJ Sugacuts, DJ IXL & DJ Excess) who brought the newly designed Rane performance DJ mixers to the UK with them.

These mixers the Rane TTM 52 and Rane TTM 54 had been designed by DJs for DJs (including Sugacuts) with new innovative features never before seen on a DJ mixer.

Fast forward to 2004 and Rane partnered with New Zealand company Serato to launch Scratch Live a digital DJ emulation interface that worked in conjunction with a computer to allow digital files to be played via traditional vinyl turntables.

This proved to be the most popular alternative to traditional DJing and has been adopted by performance DJs across the world (see below feature Master Of The Mix) and also this year has now been officially authorised for use in the DMC World DJ Championships.

Respect The Architect: The DJ

Towards the end of 2010 BET network put out a reality TV show with a difference.... while most reality TV shows only seem to deal with the superficial... this was actually a show that was attempting to raise awareness...

Master Of The Mix was a series that brought in 7 established DJs who had to compete in 8 different challenges in order to not only determine who was the master DJ... but demonstrate exactly what it takes to be one.

Hosted by Just Blaze and featuring Kid Capri as a master judge as well as special guests like Grandmaster Flash adding extra weight to the competition.  Watch the full series here: Master Of The Mix
